Year 2008 in Review

Year In Review

Under the leadership of our newly elected president, Mr. Uddhav Giri, NAFCA continues to build on it's success. NAFCA has received generous donations from new sponsors. NAFCA held a workshop on how to open a small business and also held it's First Annual Camping on August 2008. NAFCA will be holding a Free Immigration Workshop on November 8, 2008. NAFCA continued with a traditional celebration of Nepali New Year 2065 on April.

Listed below are some of the events for the year 2008:

August 2-3, 2008: First Annual NAFCA Camping and Picnic Program organized by NAFCA on Saturday August 2 and 3 was a great success.  There were about sixty participants in the evening and camping out under the beautiful Folsom Lake, CA. Outdoor barbecue, beer, dance and jokes made the evening full of fun. Some of us were up until 2 am sitting by the fire telling jokes and roasting chicken. The NAFCA family sends a very special thanks to the camping and picnic organzers Gajendra Adhikari and Uddhav Giri for making the event exciting and fruitful.

NAFCA Fundraiser for the Flood Victims of Nepal: Immediate emergency assistance is already on the way for up to 170,000 people in western Nepal who have been displaced by the severe flooding that claimed more than 30 lives earlier this month. Flash floods have affected over 24,000 families in the worst hit districts of Kanchanpur and Kailali.

The United Nation and its humanitarian partners launched a $15.5 million appeal to help 70,000 people in eastern Nepal who were displaced after heavy monsoon rains caused a dam to break, breaching the eastern embankment of the Kosi River, one of the largest river basins in Asia. The force of the water led to 80 per cent of the river changing course, and the resulting flooding has impacted an already vulnerable population. The appeal launched is supplementing a $102 million Transition Appeal for Nepal for 2008, which has received less than half of the support needed. Every dollar you donate will help towards the victims of flood and your donation is tax deductible as nafca is a 501c established non-profit organization.

The Executive Committee of NAFCA wants to extend thier Thank You to all those people who gave thier support and donated money for the flood victims of Nepal. With your help NAFCA has raised $627 so far to assist for the flood victim. Those of you who haven't yet contributed to flood victim fund, do your best to expedite. The last day is during Dashain 2008 Celebration. If you would like to donate to support for the Flood Victim of Nepal, please have the check ready on Dashian Celebration Day or send a check made out to NAFCA and in memo, please write ”For the Flood Victim” by no later than October 8, 2008. Please send your donation to NAFCA P. O. Box # 878, Davis, CA 95617. We will continue to collect donation for flood victim until the day of Dashain 2008 Celebration on October 11, 2008.

NAFCA Celebrates Nepali New Year 2065: NAFCA Celebrated Nepali New Year 2065 on April 14, 2008 at Davis Veterans Center. NAFCA continues to work hard for its mission to preserve and promote Nepali cultural heritage and foster mutual cooperation among Nepalis and friends of Nepal. Let’s hope the Year 2065 will be fruitful to Nepal in terms of political stability, peace building and a smooth transition from a conflict-hit nation to once again a country of peace.
