Year 2007 in Review

Year In Review

NAFCA had it's most productive year-to-date; NAFCA has grown both in numbers of attendees and events; participating in many programs, organizing fundraising events and celebrations. The three elected committee members, Gajendra Adhikari, Ajay Dev, and Anup Srivastav, continued their terms in 2007. They were joined by two new committee members, Manju Tuladhar and Sahadev K.C. Today, NAFCA has not only grown in numbers, but also in recognition - through our website NAFCA has been able to reach people in more than 30 different countries.

Listed below are some of the events for the year 2007:

NAFCA Historical Public Meeting in December 2007: NAFCA held the first public meeting on December 2, 2007. During the public meeting, Ajay Dev gave a presentation on NAFCA's past, present, and future in which was proposed the need to add amendments to NAFCA's Bylaws and a Board of Directors due to the growth of NAFCA. NAFCA's present Executive Committee as well as the newly elected Executive Committee were present to answer questions. Also, included in the public meeting, Roger Adhikari gave a presentation on the need for a Nepali Community Center for Northern California.

NAFCA's Deusi Bhailo 2007 Fundraiser: On November 9-10 of 2007 NAFCA traveled to several homes in Sacramento and Woodland areas to bring the joy and festivities of Deusi Bhailo to the local people as well as raise money for NAFCA. NAFCA was able to raise $1,400 during the 2 day event.

NAFCA Celebrates Dashain 2007: NAFCA's Dashain 2007 Celebration was held on October 28, 2007 at the Davis Veteran's Center. This was the most attended celebration in NAFCA's history with over 300 attendees. Everyone enjoyed a large and diverse cultural program, with many dances representing the diverse culture of Nepal, songs, musicians, and poems by our local talented artists; the traditional Nepali dinner was catered by Kathmandu Kitchen; raffle prizes and awards were given for activities; as well as special recognition certificates.

NAFCA Fall 2007 Awards: At the 2007 Dashain Celebration NAFCA presented special recognition certificates to people whose contribution and work for NAFCA merited Special Recognition, as well as to people who have made a substantial financial or long term commitment to NAFCA.

NAFCA Fundraiser for the Flood Victims of Nepal: NAFCA raised $751 for the flood victims of Nepal. Flooding across Nepal affected more than 300,000 people, mostly in the rural areas of the Terai along the southern border with India. Floods, landslides and disease killed hundreds of people in the Himalayan country. Hundreds of thousands of Nepali people lost their properties and belongings during the last monsoon season. The NAFCA Executive Committee is grateful to the friends and members of our community who deserve a great applause for their contributions to the flood victims of Nepal.

NAFCA Fundraiser for Fire Victims - the Timsina Family: NAFCA regreted to inform the community that on August 16, 2007, one of our members from the Nepali Community, Vaskar and Renuka Timsina, had their apartment burned down in Woodland, CA. Fortunately, both of them and their daughter were not hurt. However, their apartment was burned heavily and they lost everything. NAFCA raised $1,106 for the Timsina Family. Both the Timsina Family and the NAFCA Executive Committee are grateful to all the people who assisted the Timsina's morally, physically, mentally, financially, and in any other way possible during this tough time.

NAFCA Celebrates Nepali New Year 2064: NAFCA Celebrated Nepali New Year 2064 on April 14, 2007 at Davis Veterans Center. NAFCA continues to work hard for its mission to preserve and promote Nepali cultural heritage and foster mutual cooperation among Nepalis and friends of Nepal. Let’s hope the Year 2064 will be fruitful to Nepal in terms of political stability, peace building and a smooth transition from a conflict-hit nation to once again a country of peace.

NAFCA Spring 2007 Awards: At the 2064 New Years Celebration, NAFCA presented special recognition certificates to people whose contribution and work for NAFCA deserved Special Recognition.

NAFCA Participates in Picnic Day Parade 2007: NAFCA was pleased to participate for the second time in the 93rd UC Davis Annual Picnic Day Parade on April 14, 2006. UC Davis Picnic Day is the largest student-run event in the United States and is the annual Open House for the University of California, Davis. Rain — heavy at times — couldn't keep the crowds away from Picnic Day at UC Davis on Saturday morning. The soggy weather didn't seem to dampen spirits despite the cancellation of many outdoor events at the university's annual open house.
