Literary Symposium and Solo Poem Recital Program In the collaboration with the Nepalis and Friends Cultural Association and the California Chapter of the International Nepalese Literature Society, a solo poem recital was held by Dr. Badri Bishal Pokhrel in the literary symposium at Woodland, California on May 23, 2010. Mr. Uddhav Giri, the chief guest of the program and the preceding President of NAFCA talked about the significance of the literary program. Likewise Mr.Basu Dhakal, the secretary of the California Chapter of International Nepalese Literature Society shed light on Dr. Pokhrel's literary contributions and stature and importance and relevance of literary programs. Dr. Pokhrel who came to the USA for a brief visit of two months is well- known for his intellectual and academic stature. He is an Associate Professor of Mahendra Morang Addrsha Multiple Campus and Janta Multiple Campus, has published various literary works including the poem collection "Achetan Manharu," the essay "Sastra, Dhwasta Salik Ra Aahat Manharu, "Parijat-Jibani Kabitwa Ra Kabita Yatra," and "Pragati Badi Kabita, Sidhyant Ra Prabrite". During the program, the current state of affairs regarding Nepalese literature was discussed and Dr. Pokhrel recited about two dozen of poems and songs. During the program Dr. Pokhrel was bestowed with an Certificate of Appreciation honoring his long service in promoting and teaching Nepalese language and literature. Dr. Pokhrel tendered his heart-felt gratitude to the organizers of the program that was presided over by the current NAFCA president, Mr. Tanka Bhattarai. Mr. Bhattarai said that NAFCA has started celebrating the literary program and historical festival of Nepal which should be continued in the future so that children and adults can learn Nepalese poems and literature, as well as just enjoy the recital of Nepalese poetry as it is refreshing for the mind. The program was announced by Mr. Saurav Pokhrel and attended by quite a few literary passionate participants including Rabindra Pandey, Jeet Baral, Narayan Silwal, Madan Giri, Krishna Gautam, Surya Prakash Gautam, Laxman Gadtaula , Uddhav Sapkota, Uddhav Giri, Tanka Bhattarai, Sama Sharma, Pratibha Bhattarai, Mithila Pokhrel, Devaki Dhakal, Aman Bhattarai, Ansual Bhattarai and Nirvic Silwal.
