Nepali New Year 2065
New Year

In Nepal as in all countries, the New Year is celebrated in many different ways. The Nepalese calendar started by King Bikramditya is based on the solar calendar. Thus, the Nepalese New Year usually falls in mid-April. This year the New Year fell on April 13th.

On New Year's day, Nepalis visit the Pashupatinath temple to take a bath in the holy Bagmati River. Pilgrims also visit other religious spots and spend the day picknicking. It is a day to seek blessings from the family priest and one's elders as well. Nepalese people hope that the New Year will bring joy and happiness to their lives.

NAFCA celebrated Nepali New Year 2065 Bikram Sambat on April 13, 2008 at the Davis Veteran's Center. His Excellency Dr. Suresh Chandra Chalise, Ambassador of Nepal to the United States of America, and his wife Dr. Milan Adhikary were both NAFCA's guest of honor during the Nepali New Year 2065. NAFCA president, Mr. Uddhav Giri, presented Ambassador Chalise with the Certificate of Appreciation. There were many activities and dances representing the diversity of Nepali culture, songs, musical performances, and poetry recitations by our local talented artists and children. There were indoor activities/games followed by a delicious authentic Nepali dinner catered by Kathmandu Kitchen. During the New Year program we also presented various Awards and Certificates to distinguished personalities for their outstanding contribution to the organization and community as well. The New Year's event ended with prizes for the indoor activities/games winners, and appreciation for all the cultural program participants.

See below for winners of the Best Traditional Costume; a list of the local talented Artists who participated in the Nepali New Year 2065 Cultural Program.
